S1 E2 The Poet’s Tree - Rachael Kahn prompt - Bring life to a fruit
The Pomegranate of MajoRana
My skin is bitter
I know why - EXILED
Do you really think
you can keep me away forever?
Eternally trapped here
my skin has become as bitter
as the peel of a pomegranate
Unbeknownst to you
613 seeds of my inner being
have turned into ruby red facets
of rebirth
Mark my words
on the day of my release
I will plant an orchard from these seeds
The harvest will give me ability
to forever renew myself
The wrath of my separation will be felt
you will kneel before me
when I return

Last week I shared about The Poet’s Tree series. I was honored when Rachel Kann read my first poetry submission, The Key.
The following week her prompt was to give voice to fruit, this tied into another writing project of mine started in 2016. A graphic novel for a way for me to have continued adventures in the cosmos with my daughter, Alyssa. She has been riding comets since 2013. The Creative Process is part of my healing journey. Nothing prepares you for the loss of a child.
I wasn’t planning to write one, it started when I commissioned A.J Fulcher to create a superhero badass pinup to remind myself I could handle anything. He did a few more pieces for me when I realized he could draw anything that came to mind.
Eventually he said, “Well you know every superhero has a nemesis, an evil archenemy - who is yours?”
It took a while for me to figure out her name - MajoRanna
The name of my Substack comes from the very beginning of my graphic novel, now a hybrid project that will include poetry. Currently rethinking its title, more on that later.
til next week - Marjorie
