Sunshine & Whiskey
sunshine & whiskey
sips create
rosey cheeks
golden liquid burns with delight
divine inner & outer glow
still …
I prefer to sip Gin & Tonic
with moonbeams braided into my hair
lay on dewy grass
in body temperature midnight air
skinny dip in the vernal pool
made by mermaid’s tears
eyes sealed shut
starlight dances on the tips my lashes
flickering patterns fill the sky
I become one with the atmosphere
time to reach for the last sip
the ice has all melted
a slice of lemon greets me
makes my lips pucker for the awaited kiss
… more than divine

This poem was inspired by a t-shirt I picked up from a thrift store. It caught my eye, then the words flowed. Love it when this happens, especially when the first draft feels complete.

I wore it Friday and read it to Rebekah, my acupuncturist. She understands my mermaid reference, this really touched her. She is glad I can still find joy and connect with the Universe and my sweet Alyssa.
This is why I decided to share this poem. This is why I decided to share this poem.
