I honestly wish this senryu haiku did not need to be written. This gum ball leaves a bitter sour taste in my mouth
The Florida State Board of Education approved new standards to teach African American studies to show the benefits of slavery like it could have been an internship.
"benchmark clarifications," and among those was one that states "instruction includes how slaves developed skills which, in some instances, could be applied for their personal benefit."
History matters - choice of words matter
"How is it that anyone could suggest that amidst these atrocities [of slavery], there was any benefit to being subjected to this level of dehumanization?"
- Vice President Kamala Harris

I really do not understand how this managed to happen.
How could the Florida State Board of Education try to minimize slavery?
Governor Ron DeSantis, what will come next?
Great senryu haiku! As a former educator, the topic of your poem especially hits home. How history can be 'whitewashed' or, in some instances, just removed all together, is beyond me! Here, in Texas, they have taken similar unconscionable actions to do the same! As unbelievable as their actions are, they still seem to get away with it!
