More than three different ideas flashed through my mind upon viewing Josiah’s original line drawing.
A wheat stock, swimming in mid air, reaching up, tears, and grief becoming love. His ink work has this intriguing ethereal quality to it. Each drawing makes me think. This piece was not part of his “Complete the Haiga'' prompt series. He encouraged me to write a haibun, which is like a backstory. This is my first attempt at writing one. I am grateful to Setu Magazine for publishing it.

This is the first three liner that came to me. I realized it ties into an early scene in my graphic novel/poetry project, illustrated by A.J. The opening concrete poem/word art followed after. This process has opened a very stuck door to my project.
You can see why wheat images are special to me.

Enjoy a few offerings from “Complete the Haiga”. I enjoy seeing all of the different responses on Josiah’s whimsical/ethereal line drawings.
About the Artist:
Luke Brannon, raising a family in the Pacific Northwest, keeps a hand writing in his spare time. Influenced by language poetry, his micropoetry focuses on capturing the moment and its interplay with the reader’s own experiences. When not writing, Luke illustrates line-art inspired by the American Southwest. More recently, he has begun to bridge his writing and art into one.
*Luke goes by Josiah for his artist name.

It is getting easier to share my backstory, and why I write. Some days are still freakin’ hard. The Creative Process keeps me going + I enjoy collaborating with my friends.
The March Setu issue went live in April, my birthday month. It has been such a gift to work with these three creative people. Forever grateful to editors, Mr. Anurag and Dr. Sunil Sharma for the continued support of my artist and poetic endeavors.

Keep up your amazing work, Marjorie! I'm so glad you are finding your vessel opening and letting the words pour forth. One thing I love about your short form poems is the weight and significance each and every word carries. Beautiful!
