Scar of Being
I lived in liquid space & fluid time
connected to something larger than myself
pushed out
cord cut
the ultimate scar of being
created with one snip
my belly button
a sealed pathway for now
over time more scars form
most not visible on the skin side
to heal those I use my hands
pick up a pencil or brush
joy & sorrow must coexist
textures of words & color mingle
the pain lessens
I smile again
it broadens cheek to cheek
as a thought turns into action
finger tip placed into my belly button
could my arm become the umbilical cord
to my womb brain, my internal Universe?
brilliant hues & letters make up nebulas
a "Thought Star" goes supernova
ideas flow from brain to hand
I remove my finger
no belly button lint
or fuzzy thoughts
time to pick up a pencil
write down crystal clear ideas
the creative process
my umbilical cord
this pathway opened again
new thoughts occur
ever reaching out
may I learn to ask the right questions

Always a thrill to see my poem out in the world
This piece was written during lockdown while following the Poet’s Tree produced by Gill Sotu. It was really fun to ponder my belly button, made me laugh to pick this part of my anatomy, and expand the thought. Thankfully mine does not collect lint.

Such an enjoyable night with everyone reading their contributions. I enjoy documenting fun times, took this pic before reading my poem.
Beau had a good time too, the dog with Betty Davis eyes.
