Mitchell Walker created this glass globe sculpture. This intriguing piece hangs in the garden of Anna Zappoli. This image I took inspired my haiku.
third eye
spirals upwards
meet you midway
cosmic waltz
spin with stars
we dance barefoot
Saturday was time spent with friends. First an art opening, then a poetry reading at a dear friend’s house.
So many things caught my eye in the magical garden of Anna Zappoli, local San Diego artist and poet. www.zhibit.org/annazapp/artwork I am grateful to Blanca Lucia Bergman got us all together. She is a musician, song writer, community connector and so much more. www.beyondartistsblock.com/show-notes/blanca-lucia-bergman-how-community-is-at-the-heart-of-creativity
Anna is also part of a show I help to curate for Writers Ink Inspiration Gallery. www.TheElectricWomb.com Our closing reception is 9.1.23, the show runs through the end of September.
I credit Anna for me becoming a spoken word poet. 2018, I heard her headline at Palabra. The following week I found my daughter’s nearly empty journal, then I filled it when she could not. Anna gave me the courage to step up to the mic.
Now back to the garden. Anna’s canvases & other artists' works are tucked amongst the foliage.
I love how she allows her garden to be a gallery, art does not only have to hang on walls. Anna’s home is an art installation both inside and out.
This was my 1st time to meet Mitchell, a true renaissance man. He plays custom painted didjeridus, and is heavily into astronomy. Mitchell created a 3D star map that took a year to create. Do believe he said it is 30” x 30”, I do know he uses a mini forklift to get it into his vehicle when it goes on display in Balboa Park.
I am so looking forward to seeing this interactive star map he calls “Sith” - Stars in the Hood
Enjoy some new music, available on iTunes -
Far beyond Earth’s fair skies lie the other planets of our Solar System. In his latest release Mitchell A. Walker explores them all. From the burning Sun to the frozen Oort cloud and beyond, journey with the voice, keyboards and didjeridu of Delta Didjetellus in 11 long form soundscapes.
These wonderful humans, who I am honored to call friends, are examples of following your heart and curiosities the max.
The Creative Process keeps me going, may you all follow your passions and make a difference along the way.
Signing off til next week’s gumball - Marjorie
p.s. - play around with your phone settings while taking pictures. I was pleasantly surprised to see the black background spotlight the glass sphere sculpture.
