look beyond this day
remember we have the power of flight
reach past crisp linen skies
soar with singed wings
above and below cloud formations
flock with birds of a feather
dare to dream
day after day
1.17.25 ~ marjorie
I took this video the other morning before work, my part time gig of helping seniors move. I hear the most interesting life experiences while packing and unpacking their belongings.
On January 20th I shall celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King - as says
“Day ON!
Check out - Post Card from the Principal’s Office #5 - it’s no day off kids
“When I was principal, I challenged my students to see MLK Jr. Day not as a day off, but a day on! And I directed my staff to insure to use time leading up to this important day as a means of doing some teaching that had the potential to have even more lasting impact than the normal routines of reading, writing, and math.”
I encourage you to read Kert’s complete postcard and subscribe. His writings cover important territory. He really got me thinking about what Gumball I should roll out on the 20th 🙏☺️ His post and these images inspired this freshly minted poem.
till next week ~ Marjorie
What a lovely poem to discover here. And your peaceful video of the breaking wave with the flock of birds above. I watched as some birds decided to leave the larger group and go their own way. A visual metaphor for our times. May we all find our way home.
O…M…G!!! On this day, you don’t know, Marjorie, what a kindness like this means (no, check that…. I think you do know.) Today starts a new resolve to find and stay very close to my kindred spirit kin, to hold each other closely and warmly, and to remind ourselves of Dr. King’s plea—to keep our hands on the arc to insure it bends, always, toward justice. Thank you!
The poem, btw, is spot on beautiful and is its own northern star plea. Being a huge kin of the ocean myself, you had me just at the still frame of the waves. And you’re gonna have to write more about that volunteer job you have of helping Seniors move. Is that with a certain organization? Interested.
